Before the sale (prep & warm-up)
- Pre-schedule smart-collection rules
Turn on tag/title conditions at a specific start time (e.g., show products with tag bfcm or titles containing “Deal”).
- Stage promo collections in advance
Keep a clean base setup, then apply temporary rules in the BFCM window; Planera will restore the base after.
- Pin / promote key SKUs (manual collections)
Put doorbusters, bundles, or high-margin items at the top for the sale window.
- Daily shuffle for discovery
Randomize Featured Collection products on the homepage so shoppers see a fresh mix each day leading into BFCM.
- Title swaps on schedule
Auto-rename collections (e.g., “Black Friday Deals”, “Cyber Monday Flash”) exactly when the promo goes live.
During the sale (go-time)
- Auto-flip collections at the start time
Your BFCM rules switch on—no midnight edits.
- Push down OOS / low-stock
Keep sold-outs out of the first rows to protect conversion.
- Timed rotations
Shuffle spotlight collections hourly/daily to keep the storefront lively across time zones.
- Segmented spotlight
Run separate schedules for “Doorbusters”, “Gifts Under $50”, “Last Chance”—each with its own title and sort.
After the sale (cool-down)
- Auto-restore
When the window ends, Planera reverts collections, titles, and product order to your base setup.
- “Extended” plans ready
One-click extend: duplicate the window for “Extended Cyber Tuesday” etc.
- Post-sale clean-up
Remove temporary bfcm tags and revert any special title copy if you used those rules.
Practical setup examples
- Smart collections
- Tag rule: show products with tag
bfcm (Shopify tag rule supports EQUALS).
- Title rule: show titles that CONTAIN “Deal” or “Black Friday”.
- Manual collections
- Pin 6 doorbusters to the top from 00:00 Fri → 23:59 Mon.
- Shuffle everything else daily at 06:00 to refresh the grid.
- Title changes
- “New Arrivals” → “Black Friday New Arrivals” (Fri–Mon), auto-restore afterward.
Tips to keep it clean
- Keep handles/URLs stable (rename titles, not handles).
- Use one active window per collection to avoid conflicts; if they overlap, prefer the most recent start time.
- Dry-run the schedules on a staging collection to preview results.
